EXT. MS. FRANCES'S WINDOW - DAY

 

Miss Frances witnesses the whole incident with the police and Raymond from her window.

 

Miss Frances calls GRANDMA PEARL.

MONTAGE - THE SELLING OF DRUGS ON DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA STREETS

 

-- The street sign of Orleans Place is visible; cars pull

   into alleys; faceless drivers purchase drugs from

   sellers.

 

 

-- The street sign of 14th and Clifton Street comes into

   view; women having sex for drugs are visibly on the

   scene.

 

-- A barrage of Washington, DC street signs flash before

   the eyes while a myriad of drug transactions come into

   focus.

 

-- Big Sis and JJ are in GRANDMA PEARL's basement bagging

   large quantities of cocaine at the round table.

EXT. TRACY'S CAR

 

Tracy and Raymond turn onto W Street in Tracy's car.

 

Sgt. Silverman, officers Morrison, Brennan and Tracey sit in a tinted-windowed Nissan Pathfinder truck in front of GRANDMA PEARL's house.

 

Tracy parks his car behind the Pathfinder.

 

Raymond Edwards, III and Tracy do not realize that undercover police officers are inside the Pathfinder.

When Raymond Edwards, III and Tracy get back into Tracy's car, Sgt. Silverman and the rest of his undercover jump out squad follow them.

 

 

(Scene 54)

INT. UNMARKED POLICE CAR - NIGHT

 

              SGT. SILVERMAN

Brennan, write down the tag number and have the tags traced for an address.

 

       OFFICER BRENNAN

       (talking into radio)

5th district to dispatch; dispatch, give me a trace of address on a DC tag number AL-601 as well as ownership of vehicle.

 

 

              DISPATCH (OS)

Copy, one moment.

 

              OFFICER MORRISON

Sgt., I think we should stop them and do a frisk.

 

              SGT. SILVERMAN

No, we can't do that Morrison because our assignment today is observation.   Plus, if we were to find anything on them it wouldn't stand up in court because we really don't have a good reason for a search.   They haven't done anything wrong.

We have to stop tailing them because they're liable to figure this out.   What we'll do is set up an observation post at the corner of 6th and Orleans Place.  We will observe subjects participating in drug activities then we will make arrests.

Officer Cannon is sitting at his desk writing a report; his

cell phone RINGS.

INT. HOTEL ROOM

 

Raymond is sitting in one of the hotel room chairs talking

on the telephone to officer Cannon.

Yeah Cannon, this is Raymond.  Meet me at the Crystal City Gateway Hotel in an hour; I'll be in room 932.

Officer Cannon hangs up the telephone.

 

Officer Cannon gets up from his desk and grabs his sport coat from the coat rack.

MONTAGE – THE Q CONNECT

 

-- Raymond receives a large ship of powdered cocaine

 

-- Raymond ships packages of money to Los Angeles.

 

-- Raymond is receiving more and more cocaine.

 

-- Raymond is shipping more and more large sums of cash to

   Los Angeles.

 

-- Moochie, Big Sis and Ree-Ree are sitting in Mamma 

   Pearl’s basement behind a table piled full of money.

 

-- There are two men and one other woman cutting and

   bagging packages of cocaine for street sales.

 

-- Unmarked police vehicles are following Ryamond Edwards,

   III everywhere he goes, including his trips back and

   Forth to Los Angeles, CA to see Q and the Dapper Dons.

There will be a raid at 704 W Street, N.E. and the search warrant will state certain items they’re looking for, such as guns and drugs.

              OFFICER CANNON

Tomorrow at 3:45 p.m.

 

              RAYMOND EDWARDS, III

Woooo, thanks for the heads up.  There is something else I need you to do for me Cannon.

 

OFFICER CANNON

Yeah, what’s that?

 

RAYMOND EDWARDS, III

I need you to put this nigga named Chop in Trinidad to rest for me.

 

              OFFICER CANNON

Chop?  I know exactly who you’re talking about.  He’s hot too.   He also gives me information on what’s happening with that crew too.

Yeah, he’s the one who killed my man Tracy.

 

              OFFICER CANNON

I can take care of that tonight.  I’ll catch him going to his girlfriend’s house.

On his cell phone, Raymond Edwards, III call’s one of his crew, Anthony from Hanover Street.

INT. GRANDMA PEARL’S KITCHEN

 

GRANDMA PEARL is sitting on a bar stool at the counter in her kitchen talking on the phone to Miss Francis.

 

                                                                                                  GRANDMA PEARL

Frances, I am so glad to be away from that place I don’t know what to do.  My grandson spent about $70,000 furnishing this place for me.  I gotta bring you out here some day.

 

 

       MISS FRANCES

Yes Pearl, I would like that.  I need to get away from here sometimes.

 

       GRANDMA PEARL

What’s been going on aroung there Frances?

 

       MISS FRANCES

Everything!!  The same old stuff day in and day out.  I think them police busted in your old house again today.

 

 

(Scene 143)

Raymond Edwards, III and Anthony take Q to National Airport.

 

At the terminal, Q gives both Raymond and Anthony five (handshakes) before he boards the plane.

 

              Q

All right champ, I’ll be calling you in a couple of days.   So what’s your plans, are you coming to Cally next week?

 

       RAYMOND EDWARDS, III

Yeah, but I’m going to try and send some money out there to you before I come.  Me and Anthony got three mill that we’re trying to spend.

 

       Q

That’s cool, just hit me man.

 

       RAYMOND EDWARDS, III

All right man, peace.

 

Q boards the airplane.

FIVE HOURS LATER

 

Los Angeles International Airport - NIGHT

 

Q’s plane arrives at the airport.

 

When he gets off the plane, Q pulls out his cell phone and calls his cousin Ricardo in Columbia.

                                   Yo, Ricardo, we’re on man.

THE NEXT MORNING

 

Q drops Raymond and Anthony off at the airport.

 

Raymond Edwards, III and Anthony exchange good-byes with Q.

THE NEXT DAY

 

The mouth of an unknown crewmember is shown on the phone talking to FBI agents and telling on Raymond Edwards

 

                                                        FIRST MOUTH

I'm here to tell y'all man Raymond Edwards is responsible for more then 90 percent of the killings in this city.

 

              FBI AGENT

Can you tell us who you are?  We will give you a reward.

 

A gloved hand hangs up the telephone in the telephone booth.

 

 

 

(Scene 165)

FBI agent Joe Crushfield and DEA special agent Chuck Albright put under surveillance, Slim Rawls and his crack house with other FBI and DEA officials ready to do a raid.

 

 

 (Scene 167)

DEA Special Agent Chuck Albright informs FBI special agent Joe Crushfield that Mayor Maryan Clarion has just went inside the crack house and the raid has to be put off for a few hours.

Albright to special agent Crushfield.

 

       Agent Crushfield

This is Crusfield, go ahead.

 

 

       DEA Chuck ALBRIGHT

You're not gonna believe this, but the Mayor has just walked in the crack house sir.

INT. GRANDMA PEARL'S HOUSE

 

GRANDMA PEARL's phone RINGS.  She answers it.

 

GRANDMA PEARL

Hello.

 

                                          MISS FRANCES

              Pearl?  Is that you?

 

                                          GRANDMA PEARL

              Yes.

 

                                          MISS FRANCES

Yeah Pearl, this is Frances, they got that boy out there again.  This time it look like they meant business.  They had the S.W.A.T. team and dogs it looked like to me.

 

              GRANDMA PEARL

Is that right Frances?  Where are they now?

 

              MISS FRANCES

It look like they gone now.  I know they had Lil Ray and them two little bad boys dat be with him.  They show did have them on the police car checkin' dey pockets.   Dey aint lock nobody up dough.

 

Ray Sr. walks by and looks at GRANDMA PEARL as she talks to Miss Frances.

 

Ray Sr. realizes that GRANDMA PEARL is talking to Miss Frances and he shakes his head in disbelief as to how nosey Miss Frances really is.

 

                                          GRANDMA PEARL

Ok Miss Frances, I'm gonna finish washing my clothes and cleaning this house.  I'll call you back later.

 

              MISS FRANCES

Ok Pearl, you make sure you call me back okay?

 

              GRANDMA PEARL

Okay, I will, goodbye.

 

              RAY SR.

Well if it ain't the old signifying monkey, Miss Frances.  What's the latest news Momma?

 

 

              GRANDMA PEARL

Miss Frances said the police had Lil' Ray down there checkin' his pockets and stuff.  Ray Sr., I don't know what you done to that boy, but one day you gonna regret everything you taught him and he will too.

 

              RAY SR.

GRANDMA PEARL, I only taught him what I know.  Every father teaches his son what he knows in hopes that the son can take the torch and run with it.  It's all in being a man.

 

       GRANDMA PEARL

Well, the torch you're handin' him is trouble.  Now, whether he runs with it or walks with it, it's gonna take him to the same place and you know where the hell I'm talking about!
